Senior Pastor Nehemiah H. Brown



The Florence Gospel Fellowship International, Florence Italy is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev. Nehemiah H, Brown as Senior Pastor.  Rev. Brown is a San Francisco State University graduate and co-founder of the Florence Gospel Choir School, Florence Italy.  He re-located to Florence, Italy to pursue  Italian language studies at the University of Florence.  He had having worked in the Financial Services Industry in Marketing management, and lastly as a broker selling Commercial Paper.  A professional musician, Rev. Brown also served as pianist and choir director at The New Liberation Presbyterian Church and The Macedonia Missionary Baptist in San Francisco, The Shiloh Baptist Church in Hayward, CA as well as personal accompanist for several San Francisco Bay Area soloists.

Prior to coming to the Bay Area, Rev. Brown, was Director of Religious Programing and Sales Manager for XHRM-FM, San Diego, where he was religious announcer on the station’s #1 program, The God is Alive Program. In Charlottesville, VA, He served as program director of one of the nation’s primer cable radio stations, CHGC- FM. Always active in music ministry, Rev. Brown co-founded the Black Voices Gospel Choir while attending the University of Virginia and the Genesis Gospel Choir at Smith College, Northampton, Mass.. He studied with Dr. Horace C. Boyer, renowned ethnomusicologist and author of “The Golden Age of Gospel” at The University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he performed with Jazz musicians, Archie Shepp, Max Roach  and poet, Sonia Sanchez.

Rev. Brown was ordained in 1981, by his father, the late, Rev. Charles H. Brown, serving under, the late Bishop Levi Willis, Prelate of TheThird Jurisdiction of Virginia. In 1996, Rev. Brown began serving in music ministry at St. James Episcopal Church,Florence, Italy, under Vicar, Peter Casparian.  Rev. Brown represented The Church of God in Christ in Florence, Italy’s Festa della Pentecoste. He performed at the Olympic Stadium before 75,000 people for the Jubilee  with Pope John Paul II.  At the Festa of the Eucharist, in Bari, Italy,  Rev. Brown performed for Pope Benedict XVI. He has also performed for The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, her Charity, “Children In Crisis” for which he wrote the song, “ Save the Children”.   Rev. Brown has toured extensively throughout the European continent.

Rev. Brown worked as a professor in the Italian Public School system for 10 years and at the prestigious International School of Florence. He was commissioned as choral director for Markette, a popular Italian Television Show in 2008.  Rev. Brown has recorded two Gospel CD’s and toured on the East and West Coast of the United States with various Italian choral formations.

Rev. Brown has concentrated his music ministry and pastoral care working primarily in Germany and Italy.  In 2011, he became affiliated with Pastor, Maurizio Secondi, whose daughter was a former music student.  Faithfully carrying out his pastoral duties, in September 2014, Rev. Brown was elevated to Senior Pastor when Pastor Secondi and his wife Tuula departed for ministry Finland. 

Pastor Secondi and his wife Tuula founded Florence Gospel Fellowship International. It is the evolution of Renaissance Firenze founded by Scott Last. Beginning primarily as an English-Speaking student oriented contemporary worship fellowship, it has become a Bi-Lingual Italian – English ministry which serves, students, families, artists, youth and singles who are searching for significance in an ever-changing world, anchored by their faith.
